Many of the suites were enlarged, and the resulting accommodation feels genuinely spacious. The Sapphire Veranda Suites, for example, were created from two former cabins, providing separate sleeping and living areas, a dining space, generous bathroom facilities and a sizeable veranda.

There is also plenty of room throughout the ship. Finding a quiet corner for coffee, a comfortable seat for afternoon tea or a peaceful place to read is rarely a challenge. 

3. Butler service makes everyday effortless

Luxury is often about removing small inconveniences, and Crystal Serenity’s butler service does precisely that.

Guests in suites can rely on their butler for assistance throughout their voyage, while treats such as late-afternoon canapés are delivered to the accommodation. The minibar is included, and laundry and pressing are also available.

4. Superb cuisine

Crystal Serenity’s cuisine is one of its greatest attractions.

The choice begins at breakfast. Guests can opt for waiter service in Waterside, an extensive buffet at Marketplace or a more casual late-riser breakfast at the Trident Grill. The Bistro provides coffee and pastries from early morning, while food remains available late into the evening.

Waterside’s menus change every night,offer both contemporary and classic dishes. For those seeking something more specialised, there are three destination restaurants.

Umi Uma, the Japanese-Peruvian restaurant created in collaboration with chef Nobu Matsuhisa, was named Best Restaurant at Sea in the 2024 F&B Sea Awards. Beefbar offers a glamorous taste of the French Riviera, offering premium beef, seafood, salads and globally inspired dishes. Osteria d’Ovidio provides sophisticated Italian cuisine.

Even the wine offering is a step above what passengers might expect from standard-inclusive cruising.

5. Almost everything on board is included

Another hallmark of luxury is freedom from constantly signing for additional charges – and paying a hefty bill before disembarking.

Crystal Serenity’s all-inclusive approach covers meals and drinks, Wi-Fi, port fees and gratuities, as well as a broad programme of entertainment and activities. Cocktails before dinner, afternoon tea in Palm Court and early-evening canapés all become part of the daily routine without guests continually reaching for their wallets.

A day at sea may include a session in the 3,000-square-foot fitness centre, yoga, Pilates or spinning, followed by a spa treatment and lunch. Guests might then attend a lecture, play bridge, take a dance lesson, join an arts and crafts workshop or have a private golf lesson.

There is also a library containing more than 2,000 books, a swimming pool, whirlpools, pickleball and short-tennis facilities, a cinema, nightclub and casino.

7. Wellness goes far beyond a spa treatment

Crystal Serenity’s approach to wellness is impressively comprehensive.

The Aurora Spa offers treatments ranging from massages and body wraps to facials and acupuncture, alongside steam rooms, saunas and relaxation areas. The Fitness Director provides personalised guidance, including body-composition assessments and wellness programmes.

The fitness centre has panoramic ocean views, while the programme includes stretching, yoga, Pilates and spinning. Many guests return home feeling better than when they stepped aboard.

8. The ship is almost a floating university

Guest lecturers on Crystal Cruises cover a wide range of subjects designed to enrich passengers’ experiences and provide stimulating insights beyond the destinations visited. 

Topics may include history, politics, international affairs, science, technology, literature, art, music and the performing arts, as well as specialist subjects such as maritime history, exploration, archaeology, astronomy and current events.
